Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.)

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission requirements and procedures, applicants wishing to be considered for admission to the Bridge BSN to MSN program must:

  • Hold an earned Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution recognized by the United States Department of Education or a foreign bachelor’s degree evaluated by an approved agency indicating equivalency to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing earned at an accredited institution in the U.S. (official university transcript or evaluation must be received before the end of the first term)
  • Be eligible to meet externship/preceptorship requirements
  • Have an active Registered Nurse license
  • Provide 3 reference letters (2 professional)
  • Provide current resume
  • Interview with program director/lead faculty
  • Complete a gap analysis for degree plan evaluation if applicable
  • Successful completion of the Ethics, Information Literacy, and Professional Writing Seminar, along with attending the programmatic orientation
  • Provide proof of liability insurance as a Registered Nurse prior to the first clinical.

Course Description:

Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and current admission to the Ember University’s Bridge BSN to MSN Program.

Course Description: This course equips the MSN student to develop advanced health assessment skills, including history-taking, physical examination, and diagnostic reasoning. The course also focuses on advanced health assessment techniques, building on foundational knowledge of health assessment. Students will learn to conduct comprehensive health assessments, analyze data, and develop differential diagnoses.

Course Description: This course offers an advanced examination of the pathophysiological processes that underpin various disease states, focusing on the implications for nursing practice. It emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical application to enhance patient care. Students will analyze the etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations of various diseases.

Course Description: This course focuses on strategic emphasizes in the value of various theoretical frameworks for decision making in complex healthcare settings. Students will examine decision-making models and processes. Ethical and leadership contexts and explore the impact these models have on healthcare outcomes. A further focus is given to systems thinking and bioethical considerations in complex clinical situations.

Emphasizing evidence-based strategies to improve patient outcomes, the course covers qualitative and quantitative methods, systematic reviews, and implementation science.

Course Description: This course introduces the student to current issues, theories, and evidence-based practice research in health promotion and disease prevention related to the pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. The role of the advanced practice nurse in risk assessment, education, and screening will be highlighted, as well as teaching the student to think broadly about health promotion to reduce the number of inpatient visits amongst the sick population. This course will use case studies, lectures, and open discussions to accomplish a clear understanding of the importance of disease prevention and health promotion.

Course Description: Explores healthcare policy, advocacy, and the role of nurses in shaping healthcare policy. The course also examines the complex relationships between healthcare policy, advocacy, and nursing practice. Students will analyze policy issues, develop advocacy strategies, and apply policy-making processes to improve healthcare outcomes and advance nursing practice.
